About Me

My name is Alison and I am a southern girl through and through.  I am wife to Matt and mother to Wylie. I am a consultant to a DoD contractor but what I really love to do is cook, garden, and sew and I am trying to love baking but I am not quite there yet.  Baking is a science and it requires that you follow the rules, two things I have never mastered.  I learned most of what I know about cooking from my Grandma Marjorie Brewer, who cooked by sight mostly rather than measurement.
A little of this and a little of that kind of cooking.   The problem with that kind of cooking is it is nearly impossible to tell someone how to replicate it.  Heck, I don't really replicate it myself.  My husband can tell you he rarely, if ever gets a dish the same way twice.  This blog is a chance to challenge myself to write down my recipes.  It is also an opportunity to share my recipes, tips, and failures with my friends, family, and anyone else that might be interested.

I also love to garden, something else I got from my grandparents.    Over time I hope to add more and more information about what I have learned about gardening.

Matt came to Huntsville by way of Missouri and South Carolina but his pie chart will tell you that he is more southern than anything else.  He definitely loves southern cooking--the first meal I ever cooked for him was fried pork chops and he still talks about them 6 years later.   I should probably throw in at this point that he likes data, being an engineer and all.  I can't really make fun of his love of Excel charts because heaven knows I love them too, just not when I am cooking.  All said, this makes cooking together interesting because I am over at the stove throwing in this and that while he is trying to precisely measure the this and the that.   Matt has a silly streak that I love so much.   I am hoping he can be a part of this blog down the road.
